and on the other the main Piazza with its imposing bell
tower of the majestic Cathedral Sant’Andrea. Famed

Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, a taste of the Orient
can be felt throughout. From the Arabic influences in
the art and architecture to the history of the origins
of coffee, carpets, paper and even the compass! It is
from this quaint seaport that it is believed the Italians
first experienced the rich aroma and flavour of the
coffee beans shipped from across the seas.
Let the celebrated Flavio Gioia, the sailor who is
said to have perfected the compass, point you in the
direction of his home Amalfi, where endless discoveries
both native and foreign can be made. From the Arabic
arches of the Chiostro del Paradiso, to the relics of
the apostle of Sant’Andrea, to the history of
paper, and the “Tavole Amalfitane”, Amalfi
has something for everyone.
